Three schools at King's College London (KCL) – School of Arts & Humanities, School of Social Science & Public Policy and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience - and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invite applications to the Joint PhD programme (JDP) for every Semester I (August) intake. This JDP represents a good mix of strength from both universities to enhance the training and research work of PhD candidates from both institutions. The programme allows students to pursue work in a wide range of humanities and social science disciplines as well as in topics that invite interdisciplinary approaches. The Schools and Faculty complement each other in terms of areas of strength and of geographical location. You will be registered in one home university, but guided in your work by faculty from both, and examined to the standards of both. You will graduate with a joint qualification, earning a certificate which bears the crests of both universities.

National University of Singapore (NUS) offers a distinctively Asian and global experience that is grounded in maximising the potential of students and their future-readiness, and broad-based research excellence that enables beneficial translation.

NUS is also highly regarded for the hallmark rigour and breadth of its academic programmes, innovative entrepreneurship education, and experiential learning. Learning across faculties and disciplines is highly valued and practised, with other cross-disciplinary initiatives available for a well-rounded knowledge base and transferable skills.

Undergraduates will learn countless lessons during their NUS journey. Steeped in an inquisitive culture, students will be nurtured and inspired by pre-eminent thought leaders to think critically and creatively while working synergistically with their peers.

NUS' numerous overseas programmes underscore the global nature of education offered by the University. These expeditions of varying lengths expose participants to a wide range of economic realities and challenges and enable them to experience firsthand how other cultures live, work and play.

Accentuating NUS' transformative global education are programmes that facilitate the pursuit of more than a single degree at a time. Students may choose to do a Concurrent, Double or Joint Degree offered either solely by the University or in collaboration with several of its distinguished partner universities from around the world.

National University of Singapore’s (NUS) graduate programmes are designed to nurture a passion for inquiry and to provide students with the tools to tackle intellectual challenges with confidence and creativity. NUS offers a wide range of graduate programmes catering for a variety of interests, namely:

  • Doctoral degree programmes which are primarily research-based and are typically the first choice for students who seek depth of knowledge, enjoy creative problem solving, and who aspire to hold high level positions in their respective fields.
  •  Master's degree programmes which are primarily designed to prepare students for the practice of a profession (typically Master's by coursework), or to master a subject area as a precursor to doctoral training (typically Master's by research).
  • Graduate Diploma provides focused professional training in a specific niche. Graduate Diploma is often favoured by students who seek additional exposure to an area of interest without committing themselves to longer-term further studies.

These programmes offer excellent opportunities for students to further develop their potential as intellectual leaders for a wide range of career paths.

NUS is home to students and faculty members from many countries. Its faculty members have an international reputation for research excellence in many fields. They have built collaborations in research across national borders and disciplines. Some of these collaborations provide opportunities for students to work towards a Ph.D. degree conferred jointly by NUS and an overseas partner university.
